A Web address is the wording which gives access to a specific Web page. For this it is sufficient to ask a navigator to search for the corresponding page while entering its URL in the “address” bar.

Examples of URL addresses: www.exemple.com or www.exemple.com/page23.htm

The Term URL is used to universally qualify a specific Web address. “URL” is an abbreviation which means “Uniform Resource Locator” which one can understand to mean “uniform resource point of reference”.

The term DNS covers two meanings:
- The “Domain Name System”: concerns the global speech recognition system of naming on the Internet and its management placed under the responsibility of Icann (www.icann.org).
- The “Domain Name Server”: concerns a server connected to the Internet network and which contains the tables establishing the correspondences between domain names and physical IP addresses on the Internet network. All DNS servers of the whole world are inter-connected between them via the Internet network and permanently exchange information for the update of their tables.

An IP address (IP being abbreviation of “Internet Protocol”) is a “number” which identifies each computer connected to the Internet network, and more generally, any computer equipment (router, printer) connected to an IT network using the Internet protocol.

Several cases are possible:

- You use the DNS servers of your web hosting provider, and it provides you with their IP names and addresses.
- You use your own DNS servers.
- You use the DNS servers of BookMyName.

  • If you want to use our mail/web redirection service, mailbox service, or zone personalization service, it is REQUIRED to use the DNS servers of BookMyName. Any other choice will invalidate those services .

- You use your DNS servers as a primary and that of BookMyName as a secondary.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you use DNS servers chosen at random

Yes, you can replace your DNS servers with others at “ Home > MANAGE > Change your domain names DNSURL: http://www.bookmyname.com/manager.cgi?cmd=dlmdns
- To enter in the window the domain names for which you want to modify the dns (or select them in the list of your domain names),

- To enter in the fields “DNS Server” the names of the new servers which you wish to allot to the domain name(s): 2 DNS minimum, 13 maximum, then validate. Note that the resource allocation of these domain names will apply to the entirety of the list of the domain names entered in the window mentioned above!

It is not necessary to indicate IP addresses of the servers, except if one of the domain names object of the modification enters the naming of one (or several) of the servers which you wish to allot. In this case, indicate the IP address for the server(s) concerned.

To validate the changes, click on the “Validate” button.

If your domain name is a “.AT, .DE, .IT, .LU”, you must configure your name servers before being able to use them. When mis-configured the registry will refuse the installation of your domain name or its modification.

Warning: Some registries (COM/NET/ORG/BIZ/INFO…. for example but not only) require the DNS name servers to be declared at registry level before being able to use them as DNS name server of an other domain name, even if a “glue record” does not seem necessary. The owner of the domain name of the name server must then declare this name server at the registry (with their IP addresses) throw the registrar of the domain name of the name server. When the domain of the name server is registered by BookMyName, you can do it at:
http://www.bookmyname.com/manager.cgi?cmd=host

Via this service you can define the answers of the DNS servers.

You can thus make your domain names point towards the mail servers (smtp) and/or Web servers (http) of your choice, including your own servers if you have such servers and fixed IP addresses. You can also declare sub-domains in an unlimited number, such as for example “subsidiary.holding.com” which is a sub-domain of “holding .com ”.
If you are an “informed” user, you can edit your zones yourself.

The different entry types known by the interface to use “aware” are: MX A CNAME NS AAAA TXT SRV WKS CAA TLSA SSHFP.

The use of our DNS servers in parking, redirection or personalization mode implies the automatic activation of DNSSEC. Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) is a cryptographic signature that is added to DNS records to secure data transmitted over Internet Protocol (IP) networks.

The propagation delay for DNS varies between a few minutes and several days. The propagation is done gradually starting from the root server through the whole grid of the Internet “Web”. The delay for updating a DNS server will thus also be related to its geographical localization compared to the root server.

Yes, if you have your own DNS servers you can allot them to your domain name. Their resource allocation is carried out at the URL: http://www.bookmyname.com/manager.cgi?cmd=dlmdns

You must then configure your DNS and edit the zone relating to your domain name.

A domain name can use several DNS servers. Generally, domain names use two of them: a primary and a secondary. Only the latter can provide a valid answer at any mo ment. One speaks about answer holding authority (“authoritative answer” in English). If you have only a primary server, BookMyName proposes to provide you a secondary DNS.

“ Home > MANAGE > Add secondary DNS in our network ” URL: http://www.bookmyname.com/manager.cgi?cmd=dlmdse

CAUTION: you must authorize network 213.36.252.0/24 to transfer DNS zones via the AXFR command .

This service requiring in-depth knowledge, it is reserved solely to experienced and informed users.

Anti-spam

Spam is the term that indicates massive electronic communications, in particular of electronic mail, unsolicited by the recipients, for advertising purposes or dishonest intentions. This term “Spam” is regarded as an Anglicism. The verb “spammer” is often used as a colloquialism to qualify the action of sending “Spam”, of “Spamming”. The word “spammer” indicates the person who sends “Spam ”.

In the edition of your coordinates: “HOME” > “MANAGE” > “Edit contact ”, you must position the anti-Spam on “Active” using the drop down menu.

Then click on “Validate”.

URL: http://www.bookmyname.com/manager.cgi?cmd=ce

The system of the Grey List has the advantage of making the rate of Spam collapse by more than 90%

Here in a few words is the principle:

The grey list rests on the fact that the majority of spammers send thousands of chain e-mails to many mail servers, starting from PCs on which a temporary and non-official server was installed. They do not respect the standard operation which requires that in the event of failure of the routing, the transmitting server MUST re-send its mail. The spammers almost never re-send their mails destined to their correspondents. On the basis of this principle, the system of grey lists consists in refusing all the mails received at the time of first presentation, and waiting for their re-sending on behalf of the transmitting server, before accepting it definitively.

Result: more than 90 % of the Spam is rejected.

Check that the system for fighting Spam is activated for each one of the contacts of your domain names. Independently of the device for fighting Spam set up by BookMyName, you can fight against Spam with software for detecting undesirable mail. They are sometimes integrated into the mail software program such as for example with “Thunderbird” and “Mozilla Mail ”.

An anti-Spam is a system which makes it possible to fight against receiving advertising and non-requested e-mails also called “Junk e-mails ”.

Whois

It's an ICANN Registrar requirement.

As company, you can only mask your e-mail address (anti-Spam)
As Individual, you can active a privacy service and you adresse, phone, email will be replaced by BookMyName service.

In the edition of your coordinates: “HOME” > “MANAGE” > “Edit contact”, you must position anti-Spam on “Active” using the drop-down menu.

Then click on “Validate”.

URL: http://www.bookmyname.com/manager.cgi?cmd=ce

It is a contractual obligation which BookMyName has with respect to ICANN, and which you have with respect to BookMyName. These data are used to feed the data base “Whois”. In the case of inaccurate Whois data dissemination, you risk the pure and simple destruction of your domain name (see article 4 of the registration contract)
